General Educational Development

GED, or General Educational Development, is a program designed to provide opportunities for people who did not complete high school to earn a high school equivalency credential. The GED test is made up of four subject areas: language arts, math, science, and social studies. It is a standardized test that assesses individuals' academic knowledge and skills to determine if they are at the level of a high school graduate. Passing the GED test can open up doors for individuals to access higher education, better job opportunities, and personal growth.

The GED program also includes preparation and support services to help individuals succeed on the test and in their future pursuits. LACSO is proud to offer this education with a focus on immigrants and non-English speakers. LACSO’s cultivated GED program provides language support and resources to help students better understand the materials and concepts being taught. To achieve this, we have cultural sensitivity and awareness training incorporated into the program. As a result, we create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for immigrant students allowing them to feel more comfortable and confident in their studies.

We also include NEWS FOR YOU, another ProLiteracy product, as part of the curriculum.
